Prime Minister Dorin Recean opened Wednesday’s government meeting with a message of gratitude to Moldovan voters and to state institutions “who have defended the integrity of the vote” in the recent parliamentary elections.
“What is important now is to not get carried away and stay humble,” Recean told Cabinet members. He warned that Moldova must remain vigilant against external pressures: “I do not believe that the Kremlin will let us be like this… just like that. We know what we have to do — we have to build resilient institutions, we have to successfully carry out judicial reform, and then we will be able to build Europe here, in our own country.”
According to preliminary results, the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has secured a parliamentary majority for another four years. Recean, listed second on the party’s candidate list, now has 30 days from the validation of the elections to decide whether to continue as prime minister or take a seat in parliament.
