More than 42% of media content produced by the so-called “official” press in the Transnistrian region qualifies as propaganda, according to an analytical report by the Promo-LEX Association. The findings are based on monitoring conducted between May and August 2025.
Promo-LEX reports that fear, Soviet nostalgia, and hostility toward Chișinău dominate the editorial agenda of Tiraspol-controlled outlets such as Novosti PMR, Pervîi Pridnestrovski, and TSV.
The analysis shows that the most frequent narratives include glorification of the Soviet military past (53%) and the portrayal of an “under siege” region (18%), both of which reinforce distrust and deepen divisions between communities on the two sides of the Dniester River.
The organization warns that this information environment isolates the local population, obstructs reintegration efforts, and provides Moscow with a lasting tool of political and social influence in the region.
Promo-LEX urges authorities and international partners to adopt targeted measures against disinformation, support independent Russian-language media, and develop policies to reconnect citizens on the left bank of the Dniester to Moldova’s information space.
