Ion Ceban has announced his resignation from Parliament, confirming that he will continue serving as Mayor of Chisinau. The decision was made public on Thursday morning, October 9, through a video message posted on social media.

“Dear citizens, dear residents of Chisinau, I want to sincerely thank you for the trust you placed in me when you elected me as general mayor for my first term. Together, when no one believed it was possible, we transformed Chisinau from a broken city into one with modern infrastructure and new public transport. We built kindergartens, schools, modernized hospitals, and rehabilitated almost all major parks and squares. We built roads and sidewalks — and we continue this work,” said Ceban.

He emphasized that the municipality is now preparing for “major modernization projects” and expressed gratitude for the support received during his second term.

Referring to the recent parliamentary elections, Ceban said:

“We learned the lesson you gave us in the elections. We entered Parliament with a team of well-prepared people, with projects focused on every citizen — on pensions, salaries, tariffs, and many other key issues. It was a dirty and aggressive campaign, built on lies and manipulation, meant to decapitate City Hall. But we are moving forward with a capable and professional team. I will remain mayor, as I promised.”

Following the September 28, 2025 elections, the ‘Alternativa’ Bloc won eight seats in Parliament. Ion Ceban, who topped the party’s list, had repeatedly stated during the campaign that he would remain in charge of City Hall if elected.

After his resignation, the top of the Alternativa Bloc’s parliamentary list will be led by former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, followed by Ion Chicu and Mark Tkaciuk.
