European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos handed the Enlargement Report for the Republic of Moldova to President Maia Sandu. The document highlights that over the past 12 months, Moldova has made the greatest progress among all candidate states across all chapters of the accession process.

President Maia Sandu welcomed the report’s conclusions, stating:

“Moldova has shown that even in the most difficult times, it delivers — and the European Union can count on us. Our country deserves its place in the European family, where freedom is protected and people can live with confidence in the future.”

The head of state is currently on a working visit to Brussels, where she is discussing concrete steps to advance Moldova’s accession process to the European Union. In addition to meeting with Commissioner Marta Kos, President Sandu met with the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. The discussions focused on accelerating the political and technical processes required to achieve the goal of concluding negotiations by 2028.

President Sandu also attended a conference on EU enlargement organized by Euronews, where she underscored the strategic importance of this process for ensuring security across the European continent.

The visit concluded with an event dedicated to the Republic of Moldova, which brought together hundreds of officials and representatives of European institutions. The event reaffirmed the strong interest and consistent support that Moldova continues to receive from its partners in Brussels.
