The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has blocked a tranche worth nearly three billion lei for the Republic of Moldova, the Ministry of Finance confirmed to IPN. The funds were not disbursed because no evaluation missions took place this year, and the IMF program expired on October 15.

Contacted by IPN, Cristina Nicolau, head of the Ministry’s Communication and Protocol Directorate, specified that out of the total undisbursed amount, 44.6 million Special Drawing Rights (SDR)—equivalent to 1.1 billion lei—were designated for programs financed under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Extended Credit Facility (ECF).

An additional 75.5 million SDR, or approximately 1.8 billion lei (based on the exchange rate estimated by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization in March), had been allocated through the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

According to the Ministry, details about a new IMF program are not yet known.
