Valea Trandafirilor, a park located in Chisinau’s Botanica district, spans approximately 145 hectares, including nine hectares of water. Established in 1968 on the site of a hill once planted with roses and officially inaugurated a year later, the park owes its name to the local tradition of growing roses and preparing rose-petal jam.

One of the key landmarks inside the park is the Memorial dedicated to the victims of the Chernobyl disaster. The area was fully rehabilitated in 2021 by the municipality: the monument was restored, new lighting was installed, pathways were upgraded, access stairs were repaired, and surveillance cameras were added. New urban furniture also enhanced the site.

At the main entrance, Chisinau’s first musical fountain was constructed, accompanied by a fully revitalized surrounding area that includes modern street lighting, a children’s playground, and new urban furniture. Access from Melestiu Street was also improved and paved.

Significant renovation took place near Lake No. 1 — previously a neglected area. Works included cleaning the spring, repairing retaining walls, redirecting rainwater and spring water into the lake, arranging the recreational area with new urban furniture, and building a small pedestrian bridge. Today, all three lakes in Valea Trandafirilor Park have been modernized.

In recent years, the park has undergone extensive transformation, featuring new recreational spaces, areas adapted for people with special needs, sports facilities, nighttime lighting, and modern amenities. Landscaped beaches, flower-lined alleys, and well-maintained greenery further enhance its appeal.

The municipality also inaugurated an impressive 1,360-square-meter sports complex that includes a skatepark and courts for mini-football, basketball, badminton, and volleyball. Chess and arm-wrestling areas are available as well, with accessibility features for visitors who use wheelchairs.

A standout addition is the “pump track,” a specially designed cycling course built from alternating bumps and banked turns, without flat sections — a first of its kind in the capital.

During summer, Valea Trandafirilor hosts various festivals, while those seeking relaxation can enjoy boat rides on the lake. Several kiosks offering ice cream, hot drinks, and refreshments contribute to the park’s vibrant atmosphere.
