After several postponements, on Friday the Central Court of Appeal held a hearing in the case in which the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) requested that the organization “Eurasia” be declared extremist. The court admitted the request of the “Eurasia” representatives for the hearings to be held by videoconference.

The spokesperson of the Court of Appeal, Adelina Rosca, told IPN that the date of the next hearing has not yet been set, as the necessary technical aspects for organizing the videoconference must be coordinated.

At the start of the trial, the SIS did not provide further details, but “Eurasia” is mentioned in a report issued by the institution about foreign interference in the 2024 electoral processes. The document states that foreign influence over the Republic of Moldova was exercised through “platforms, agents of influence, and tools typical of hybrid interference,” including the entity “Eurasia,” the “Victory” Bloc, and the organized criminal group “Shor,” supported by individuals under international sanctions and wanted by authorities.

If the court admits the SIS request, “Eurasia” will become the first organization based in the Russian Federation to be declared extremist in the Republic of Moldova, which would imply a ban on any activity within the country and the blocking of its accounts and resources.
