A network of YouTube channels continues to promote persistent disinformation narratives even outside the electoral campaign period, according to a new report published by the Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ). These narratives question European integration, the legitimacy of state authorities, and the geopolitical direction of the Republic of Moldova.

The monitoring analyzed content from 32 Moldovan YouTube channels that focus on topics related to the European Union, NATO, and the post electoral context. The analysis identified frequent false or misleading claims alleging that European integration harms citizens, political repression exists, authorities persecute the opposition, and President Maia Sandu lacks legitimacy. Other recurring narratives describe EU accession as a threat to national sovereignty, claim the destruction of the opposition, allege censorship, accuse the pro European government of relying on war, label the authorities a fascist regime, and blame the European Union for economic decline.

The report also identified additional narratives suggesting that EU integration weakens Moldova’s economy, threatens cultural identity and traditional values, or that elections were or will be falsified. Some content also claims that NATO is drawing Moldova into war.

CIJ notes that creators often combine several disinformation narratives into a single piece of content. YouTube channels linked to former television stations such as TV6 Moldova and Primul in Moldova remain the main sources of dissemination. These outlets moved online after authorities suspended their broadcast licenses and continue to publish partisan and frequently coordinated content. As in previous election campaigns, disinformation actors targeted President Maia Sandu most often.

According to CIJ, users amplify disinformation mainly through comment sections, where they repeatedly reproduce and expand false narratives. This practice increases their reach and creates a false sense of legitimacy. The monitoring identified 1,495 comments that violate YouTube policies, including hate speech, discrimination, harassment, intimidation, violent language, and calls for harmful actions, making them reportable under the platform’s rules.
