Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to take control of additional territories of the former Soviet Union and will not stop in Ukraine, according to reports by US intelligence agencies. Intelligence services assess that the Republic of Moldova could also face risks.

US agencies prepared the latest assessment at the end of September, Antena3 reports. The findings contradict statements by Donald Trump and his negotiators, who have said that Putin seeks to end the war in Ukraine and that Russia does not threaten Europe.

US intelligence officials and European partners assess that Putin intends to expand further. Mike Quigley, a Democratic member of the US House Intelligence Committee, told Reuters that Europeans, Poles, and the Baltic states remain convinced of this objective.

A White House official said President Trumps team has made progress toward ending the war. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said the United States has advanced peace talks on Ukraine. International media report that Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev plans to travel to Miami on December 20 and 21 for talks with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with discussions expected to focus on ending the war.
