The INFO LIVE Foundation successfully implemented the project “Media Advocacy and Strengthening the Democratic Development of the Republic of Moldova after the 2025 Parliamentary Elections,” carried out between October 15 and December 31, 2025. The initiative aimed to support independent media and strengthen democratic resilience in the post election context.
The project included two complementary components designed to address challenges faced by the media sector and democratic society in Moldova. The first component involved an advocacy visit to European Union institutions in Brussels, focused on supporting independent media at both national and regional levels. Discussions emphasized the need for a strategic approach by European partners to strengthen the economic sustainability of media outlets, develop newsrooms, and increase domestic media production capacity.

The second component involved the participation of Moldovan NGO and media representatives in the international roundtable “After the Vote: Lessons Learned from Electoral Security and Energy Independence in Strengthening Moldova’s Sovereignty,” held in Washington, DC, as well as related thematic meetings with international partners.
The project took place against the backdrop of an intense electoral period in Moldova over the past three years, during which the country held three major electoral cycles. While obtaining EU candidate status boosted public optimism, the media sector continues to face structural challenges, including a shrinking advertising market, regulations that lag behind current realities, the influence of media from the Russian Federation, and the use of online platforms for propaganda and disinformation.
During the Brussels visit, INFO LIVE Foundation, in cooperation with the Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, facilitated meetings with European officials. The delegation included representatives of media outlets from Chisinau and regional media from the north and south of the country, including Gagauzia. Discussions focused on election coverage, post election conclusions, countering disinformation, eliminating media monopolies, and redirecting donor support toward sustainability and the development of national media production.
In Washington, DC, the roundtable brought together the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the United States, members of the US Congress staff, Moldovan experts, and representatives of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Participants analyzed challenges related to electoral security, energy independence, and Moldova’s sovereignty, highlighting both the risks posed by external interference and the progress made in strengthening stability and Moldovan American cooperation.
Through this project, the INFO LIVE Foundation increased international visibility of the challenges and needs of Moldova’s media sector, strengthened dialogue with European and transatlantic partners, and promoted sustainable solutions for developing an independent, resilient media sector focused on the public interest.
The project was implemented with the support of the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, a project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
