At the beginning of January, law enforcement authorities received a report about an extortion case. Preliminary investigations showed that, between 2022 and 2026, a group of individuals — still under identification — allegedly threatened a 40-year-old woman and her close relatives with violence, death, the dissemination of defamatory information, and the publication of intimate images on social media.
The victims were forced to hand over a total of 6,769 euros as a result of these threats.
The National Police reported that, following operational actions and special investigative measures, officers identified the main suspect — a 24-year-old man wanted since 2023 by the Glodeni Police Inspectorate, who had previously served a five-year prison sentence for various offenses.
On January 15, 2026, police officers from BPDS “Fulger” and prosecutors from the PCCOCS detained the suspect in Chisinau and placed him in preventive detention. During a search of his residence, authorities seized communication devices allegedly used in the criminal activity.
Under criminal law, a person found guilty of such offenses faces 7 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 92,500 to 117,500 lei. Investigators continue working to identify all involved individuals and clarify all circumstances of the case.
