Veaceslav Platon will testify as a witness in the case involving Alexandr Stoianoglo, which concerns allegations of abuse of power.

Platon plans to testify by videoconference and has already appeared at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in London to give his statement.

Prosecutors accuse the former Prosecutor General of facilitating Platon release from detention and unlawfully dropping charges against him, actions that allegedly caused damage to the state.

Authorities detained Alexandr Stoianoglo on October 5, 2021, and charged him with abuse of office, passive corruption, and exceeding authority. In February 2024, a first instance court acquitted him in the abuse of office case, but other criminal cases against him remain pending.

In 2023, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that the state violated Stoianoglo right to a fair trial when it suspended him from office without allowing him to challenge the decision.

The Telegram channel MorariNews published a video showing Platon leaving the embassy and saying he could not testify on January 22 because he did not have the court decision and the Moldovan diplomatic mission did not receive official notification about the procedure.
