The State University of Moldova (USM) joined the Geminae network of the European university alliance UNITA – Universitas Montium.

Rector Igor Sharov chaired a meeting of the USM Administration Council, where the council presented and discussed the accession. The West University of Timisoara, a founding member of UNITA, invited USM to join the alliance.

The UNITA alliance unites 12 comprehensive and research universities from seven European countries—Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Romania, Switzerland, and Ukraine—and includes over 250,000 students and around 21,000 academic and administrative staff. The European Commission supports UNITA as part of its European Universities Initiative, one of 65 alliances.

During the meeting, representatives of the West University of Timisoara explained the opportunities USM gains from membership. These include developing joint research and innovation projects, accessing European funding consortia, expanding academic mobility for students and staff, and diversifying educational programs through joint degrees, international courses, and multilingual learning formats.

Joining the alliance strengthens USM’s cooperation with the European socio-economic environment, stimulates technology transfer, and increases the university’s international visibility.

During their visit to Chisinau, the delegation from the West University of Timisoara met with USM leadership to plan the implementation of institutional cooperation and to capitalize on UNITA network opportunities for the development of the State University of Moldova.
