Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu commented on the electricity outages that occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 31, 2026, stating that the losses were not significant. He made the remarks ahead of the Government meeting on Wednesday, February 4.
“The blackout occurred over the weekend, when most businesses were not operating. We are still calculating the impact, and there were losses, but they were very small thanks to the very rapid response,” the Prime Minister said.
Alexandru Munteanu warned that similar situations could occur again because of regional risks.
“We will certainly face difficult situations again,” the Prime Minister said, referring to the recent bombings in Ukraine, including in the Odesa region.
On Saturday, serious problems in Ukraine electricity grid caused a voltage drop on the 400 kV Isaccea Vulcanesti MGRES line, which led to an emergency disconnection of the power system.
