Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popsoi, met with his Lithuanian counterpart, Kęstutis Budrys, during a working visit to Chisinau. The officials confirmed the high level of political dialogue between the two countries and highlighted positive progress in bilateral cooperation.

They discussed the launch of direct flights between Chisinau and Vilnius, starting April 1, 2026, which will facilitate economic and interpersonal contacts. They also explored ways to deepen partnerships and expand economic and sectoral cooperation. Both ministers emphasized Lithuania’s ongoing support for Moldova in its European integration process, including sharing experiences in implementing reforms, applying the EU acquis, and providing expertise in key reform areas.

Mihai Popsoi highlighted the importance of Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, starting January 1, 2027, for advancing the EU enlargement agenda. He also welcomed the positive dynamics of economic cooperation, noting that 53 Lithuanian-capital companies operate in Moldova and that a business forum in Chisinau will bring Lithuanian companies seeking new investment opportunities.

“Lithuania is a reliable partner of Moldova and a strong supporter of our European path. We appreciate its openness in sharing integration experience and contributing to advancing reforms,” Popsoi said.

In turn, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said, “Moldova is progressing rapidly in its reform process, and Lithuania strongly supports its European integration. A strong Europe is incomplete without Moldova, Ukraine, and our neighbors in the Western Balkans.”

On February 6, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys is visiting Chisinau to strengthen bilateral Moldovan-Lithuanian relations, deepen political dialogue, and reaffirm Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s European path, including in the context of regional and security developments. During his visit, he will also meet with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
