The Republic of Moldova and the United Arab Emirates held the first round of bilateral consular consultations in Abu Dhabi, marking the launch of an official dialogue in the consular field.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lilian Moraru, Head of the Consular Affairs Department at Moldova’s Foreign Ministry, and Rashid Rahma, Head of the Consular Services Department at the UAE Foreign Ministry, led the delegations.
During the talks, the two sides discussed ways to improve the efficiency of consular services, advance the digitalization of procedures, and establish rapid response mechanisms for exceptional situations to better protect and assist citizens of both countries.
A key topic of the consultations was the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the mutual recognition and conversion of driving licences, signed on February 3 in Dubai. The parties agreed on concrete steps to ensure the effective application of the agreement and to simplify procedures for citizens.
The consultations also emphasized the importance of continuous information exchange and sharing best practices. The sides agreed to hold the next round of discussions in Chisinau in 2027 to further develop practical cooperation in the consular sector.
