The Chisinau Court, Buiucani office, ordered former Democratic Party of Moldova leader Vladimir Plahotniuc to spend the next 30 days in pre trial detention at Penitentiary No. 13. Judges issued the decision on February 19, Buiucani office confirmed.
Journalists from Realitatea.md reported that Vladimir Plahotniuc did not attend the hearing, citing health reasons, although authorities stated that he is fit to participate in court proceedings.
Prosecutors accuse Plahotniuc in a new criminal case of producing, possessing, and using forged identity documents. The Anti Corruption Prosecutor Office of Moldova opened the case on February 12, 2026.
