National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) and prosecutors from Chisinau are conducting 50 searches in Orhei District and the capital as part of a criminal case targeting the illegal financing of political parties under aggravating circumstances. Investigators launched the actions after analyzing evidence related to the 2025 parliamentary elections and identifying new elements relevant to the case.
According to preliminary findings, the case involves a group that includes mayors, district and local councilors, and private individuals. Authorities suspect them of implementing a scheme ahead of the elections to influence voters.
Investigators say the suspects identified and recruited voters or supporters and allegedly offered or provided money, goods, services, or other benefits to influence voting behavior or secure support for certain political parties. They reportedly used financial sources prohibited by law and failed to declare them in official party financial reports.
Authorities are also examining possible acts of electoral corruption, including offering material benefits to voters to influence their choices at the polls. During the searches, officers seized documents, data storage devices, and other evidence relevant to the case.
So far, investigators have granted suspect status to 26 individuals, who are currently under investigation while remaining at liberty.
