Alexandru Cernei, an anti-corruption prosecutor, has passed the vetting process. The Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission prepared the report, and the Superior Council of Prosecutors approved it on Thursday, according to IPN.
The evaluation panel identified some shortcomings related to prudence and transparency but concluded that they were not serious enough to indicate a lack of ethical or financial integrity. Based on the reviewed documents and reassessment results, the panel recommended that Cernei pass the evaluation.
During the Council meeting, Cernei stated that the reassessment clarified previously identified inconsistencies and asked for the Council’s support. Members approved the report unanimously.
Cernei has worked at the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office since 2014. He has handled several high-profile cases, including investigations into the Moldovan bank fraud scandal. He also represented the prosecution in the case in which Vlad Plahotniuc was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
Although Cernei initially passed the integrity evaluation in 2025, the Superior Council of Prosecutors rejected that report and ordered a reassessment.
