The Council of Europe will discuss the “Democratic Pact for Europe” in Chisinau

The future external action strategy of the Council of Europe, titled the “Democratic Pact for Europe,” will be discussed on May 15 during the ministerial session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe hosted by the Republic of Moldova. Migration, support for Ukraine, and the strengthening of international cooperation will also be included on the agenda, according to IPN.

Attendance at the event is expected from more than 50 delegations representing member states, including over 20 foreign ministers. The conclusion of the Republic of Moldova’s mandate at the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will be marked by the meeting in Chisinau.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, the meeting will be held on May 15 at the Palace of the Republic, and the agenda will be shaped around the priorities assumed by the Republic of Moldova during its presidency. Continued support for Ukraine, with a focus on post-war accountability and reconstruction, combating disinformation and foreign interference, strengthening security, and enhancing democratic resilience will be included among these priorities.

The ministerial session will open with a speech by Maia Sandu, followed by addresses from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset. At the end of the event, the rotating presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will be handed over to Monaco.

Following the ceremony, a conference will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Monaco Isabelle Berro-Amadei, and Alain Berset.
