The Republic of Moldova continues to count on Germany’s support for European integration and for advancing its accession path toward the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi discussed the issue in Berlin during a meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul.

The officials reviewed developments on the bilateral agenda and examined the stages of the Republic of Moldova’s EU accession process.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy thanked the German side for its constant support for Chisinau on its European path and stressed that the Republic of Moldova is ready to open accession negotiations across all six clusters.

According to the minister, authorities must base the process on the progress already achieved and on the principle of meritocracy.

“Germany remains one of the main supporters of the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process and supports the opening of negotiations as soon as possible,” Popsoi said.

Mihai Popsoi is paying a visit to Berlin, Germany, on May 18–19.

The Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany established diplomatic relations on April 30, 1992.
