Valeri Ghebos, head of the so-called Ministry of Security in Transnistria, gave an interview to the Russian press and claimed that Chisinau plans to interfere in the election of the region’s new leader, scheduled for December.

He alleged that security services plan to pressure, blackmail, and intimidate members of the self-proclaimed electoral commission in the breakaway region.

“We expect increased pressure from the security services of the Republic of Moldova on members of district electoral commissions and members of the Central Election Commission of Transnistria,” Valeri Ghebos told RIA Novosti. “They will force them to resign through blackmail, threats of losing Moldovan citizenship, or threats that they will create problems for them and their relatives when crossing the Moldovan border.”

The official also told Russian journalists that a terrorist threat persists in Transnistria, but he said that measures taken by the separatist leadership reduce the danger. He added that authorities continue engineering fortification works on the border with Ukraine, while he stated that no other actions posing risks take place.
