The Information and Security Service (SIS) of the Republic of Moldova dismissed claims about alleged interference in the Transnistrian leadership election as speculative and lacking credibility.
The SIS communication officials issued a statement at the request of Realitatea, saying that the so-called institutions in the Transnistrian region do not have constitutional status and do not operate within the legal framework of the Republic of Moldova.
“The Information and Security Service reminds that the so-called structures in the Transnistrian region are unconstitutional and are not part of the legal framework of the Republic of Moldova,” SIS representatives said. “Their statements are speculative, lack credibility, and do not require further comment. The competent state institutions carry out their activity exclusively on the basis of the law and in the interest of the Republic of Moldova.”
Valeri Ghebos, head of the so-called Ministry of Security in Transnistria, gave an interview to the Russian press and claimed that Chisinau plans to interfere in the election of the region’s new leader, scheduled for December.
He alleged that security services of the Republic of Moldova plan to pressure, blackmail, and intimidate members of the self-proclaimed electoral commission in the breakaway region.
