Maia Sandu signed a decree on May 25 revoking the citizenship of several officials from the so-called security ministry in Tiraspol.

The decision targets Alexandr Bulgaz, Denis Caramanuta, Nicolai Covaliov, Denis Marusic, and Evghenii Romaniuc. All individuals affected by the decree were born in the Republic of Moldova.

In February 2026, Maia Sandu also revoked the citizenship of nine other individuals who held and continue to hold various positions within the so-called unconstitutional entities on the left bank of the Nistru River. Two of them fought on the separatist side during the 1992 Transnistrian conflict.

At the time, the presidential administration stated that the Public Services Agency initiated the citizenship revocation procedure following a request from the Information and Security Service. Authorities cited a legal basis involving the commission of particularly serious acts that harmed the interests of the Republic of Moldova.
