European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos called on Moldova’s political forces to unite following the opening of the first cluster of EU accession negotiations, saying the country must bring together all its strengths and accelerate reforms to improve citizens’ lives.
“Today is also the moment for Moldova to rise as a nation and gather all its strengths on the path toward the EU. It is time for political parties, the majority and the opposition, to unite and advance reforms. It is also time for society to come together and make EU integration a reality that improves the lives of all Moldovans. Moldova is truly on the move,” Kos said.
The Commissioner stressed that cooperation across the political spectrum and continued reform efforts are essential as Moldova advances in the accession process.
On June 15, Moldova officially opened the first cluster of accession negotiations during an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg. Kos previously expressed hope that negotiations on the remaining clusters could begin as early as July.
