Chisinau International Airport may be unable to recover more than 90 million Moldovan lei loaned to Air Moldova, which is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, according to the airport’s 2025 audited financial statements.
According to the audit report, as of December 31, 2025, Air Moldova owed the airport 90.93 million lei. The debt consists of 58.5 million lei in unpaid principal and 32.43 million lei in accrued but unpaid interest, according to bani.md.
The auditors note that in September 2025, the court recognized the airport’s claim for 80.45 million lei. In January 2026, Air Moldova’s accelerated restructuring procedure was terminated, after which the company was declared bankrupt and liquidation proceedings were initiated.
Given these developments, the audit report warns that there are “material uncertainties regarding the recoverability of the loans granted and the accrued interest” not only in the case of Air Moldova but also for other debtors currently undergoing insolvency proceedings.
