Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has condemned the recent drone incidents in Romania, calling them a direct consequence of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Speaking in Bucharest after meeting with Romania’s acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Tofan said violations of a sovereign state’s airspace are unacceptable and stressed that Moldova’s and Romania’s security depends on Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
“The violation of a sovereign state’s airspace is unacceptable, and we know firsthand what this threat means. We must also be very clear about the source of these risks. They are the direct consequence of Russia’s war against Ukraine. If this war did not exist, we would not be discussing drones entering the airspace of Romania or the Republic of Moldova today. That is why our security is directly linked to Ukraine’s ability to defend itself,” Tofan said.
In recent days, Romanian authorities have issued RO-Alert warnings in counties bordering Ukraine following reports of drones entering the area. At least three unmanned aerial vehicles have been shot down by Romanian F-16 fighter jets.
