A drone flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova early Wednesday morning and crashed in an open area near the village of Hîrbovăț, Anenii Noi district, where it exploded.
According to Moldova’s Ministry of Defence, the incident occurred at around 5:43 a.m., amid large-scale attacks launched by Russia against Ukraine.
Authorities said Moldova’s integrated national monitoring system detected the drone entering and flying through the country’s airspace.
Teams from the Police and the National Army are heading to the site to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
The Air Operations Service continues to monitor Moldova’s airspace in coordination with the relevant authorities and international partners.
The Ministry of Defence has urged citizens who spot unidentified objects or their fragments not to touch or move them, and to immediately call the emergency service at 112.
Authorities said they will provide further details as more information becomes available.
