138 Candidates Nominated for Gagauzia People’s Assembly Elections

A total of 138 candidates have been nominated for the elections to the People’s Assembly of Moldova’s Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. They will compete across 35 electoral constituencies.

Of the candidates, 95 are running as independents, while 43 are supported by political parties.

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova has nominated the largest number of candidates, with 23. The Gagauz People’s Party has nine candidates, MOLDOVENII Alliance has seven, while the Party For the Country and the National Alternative Movement have two candidates each.

The candidate list includes 23 women and 115 men.

The largest number of candidates — seven each — has been registered in Comrat Constituency No. 2 and Chirsova Constituency No. 26. Six candidates are competing in Copceac Constituency No. 30, while only one candidate has been nominated in Chioselia Rusă Constituency No. 33.

So far, 34 candidacy files have been reviewed and approved by the electoral authorities. The remaining applications are still being examined, with electoral bodies required to decide on candidate registration within seven days of receiving the documents.

Elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will take place on November 15. Voters in the region will also elect the Governor, or Bashkan, on the same day.
