Socialists Criticise Military-Technical Cooperation Agreement Between Moldova and Ukraine

The Socialists have criticised the military-technical cooperation agreement between Moldova and Ukraine. The signing of the document was announced by Vasile Tofan, who was on an official visit to Kyiv on October 26.

Members of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) believe the agreement between the Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities constitutes “a direct betrayal of the Constitution.” The politicians refer to the article of the country’s supreme law establishing Moldova’s neutrality.

“Military cooperation with a country involved in a conflict de facto draws the Republic of Moldova into someone else’s war, turning our country into a frontline zone and a potential target. The authorities’ statements about ‘protecting the skies’ are merely a cynical cover for open militarisation and the implementation of a foreign geopolitical agenda. The Moldovan people have not given the Government a mandate to drag the country into military adventures. Citizens need peace, not the status of a military testing ground,” the Socialists said.

PSRM members are demanding the declassification and publication of the full text of the signed agreement, the denunciation and cancellation of any acts that undermine the Republic of Moldova’s neutrality, and the urgent summoning of the government leadership before Parliament to provide an account of the matter.

Representatives of the party have not ruled out challenging the document before the Constitutional Court and organising protests.
