Energocom Warns of Phone Scams: Fraudsters Pretend to Be Gas Company Employees to Steal Personal Data

Unknown callers are contacting gas consumers and posing as Energocom employees, attempting to obtain personal information under the pretext of reading gas meters. The company has warned that these are suspected fraud attempts and urged consumers not to share confidential information over the phone.

Energocom clarifies that it does not have employees who visit homes to read meter readings, nor does it request identity card details, banking information or verification codes by phone.

Meter readings are handled by gas distribution system operators, including Chișinău-Gaz, Bălți-Gaz and Ialoveni-Gaz.

Employees of distribution operators must carry official identification and present it upon request. If you are unsure whether someone visiting your home to read the meter works for the company serving your area, you can ask to see their ID and verify their identity by calling the operator directly.

The warning comes as meter readings are being collected to calculate gas consumption for October.

Energocom advises consumers not to let anyone whose identity has not been verified into their homes and not to disclose personal information in response to suspicious phone calls.
