Yesterday, November 15th, it has been two years since the second round of the presidential elections, after which Maia Sandu was elected president of the Republic of Moldova. Later, she was inaugurated on December 24th. Sandu began her mandate by taking the constitutional oath in front of the officials, and the citizens.
On November 15, 2020, the second round of the presidential elections took place in the Republic of Moldova. Maia Sandu and Igor Dodon were the first two candidates ranked after the first round. According to the preliminary results, the turnout was 52.78%, and the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, Maia Sandu, was elected president of the Republic of Moldova. The final election results were validated by the Central Electoral Commission and confirmed by the Constitutional Court.

In the second round, Maia Sandu was elected with a vote of almost 940 thousand Moldovans. On the other side, Igor Dodon got the vote of almost 700 thousand people.
Maia Sandu is the first female president of the Republic of Moldova. She is the sixth head of state of the Republic of Moldova, and the fourth elected by direct vote. The first presidents elected by direct vote were Mircea Snegur (1991 – 1997), Petru Lucinschi (1997 – 2001), and Igor Dodon (2016 – 2020).
Two other presidents, Vladimir Voronin (2001 – 2009) and Nicolae Timofti (2012 – 2016) were elected by the Parliament.
