March 3rd marks exactly one year since the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, together with the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, and the Prime Minister, Natalia Gavrilița, signed the application for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
Later, on June 17, 2022, the European Commission issued its opinion on the application for EU membership.
On June 23, 2022, the European Council granted the Republic of Moldova the status of a candidate country. The European Council invited the European Commission to submit a report to the Council regarding the fulfillment of the conditions set out in the Commission’s opinion on the application for membership. The Council will decide on the next steps as soon as all these conditions are fully met.
