Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, affirmed that the security of Moldova is connected to the security of Romania during the opening of the Black Sea Region Security Conference. Aurescu revealed that the conference will focus on countering Russian military aggression and its effects, combating hybrid actions against Moldova, and the developments concerning the Transnistrian issue. Additionally, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine will adopt a joint statement committing to strengthening trilateral cooperation.
“We want to convey the message that the security of Ukraine and Moldova are interconnected, and at the same time, we want to make it very clear that our support for the consolidation of the security of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova is a direct contribution to the strengthening of Romania’s security and the security of Romanian citizens,” said Aurescu.
The Romanian minister met with Nicu Popescu, his Moldovan counterpart, before the event, to discuss various issues concerning Moldova-Romania bilateral relations. Aurescu emphasized that Bucharest will promote Moldova’s interests within NATO, Moldova must follow the path of European integration, and fulfill the nine conditions for accession. He concluded that Romania will continue to support Moldova in the future.

“I hope that today’s discussions will bring very good, concrete results, and in this way, Romania will reaffirm its profile as a relevant regional actor, a reliable ally, and a provider of stability and security in the Black Sea region,” Aurescu added.
The Black Sea Region Security Conference is an annual event held to discuss and address the security challenges faced by the countries surrounding the Black Sea. The conference brings together diplomats, military officials, and experts from the participating countries to exchange views and explore solutions to shared security concerns.
