The Government of Romania approved, by decision, the opening of the international border crossing point with the Republic of Moldova, Bumbăta – Leova, as well as the establishment of the Bumbăta Border Customs Point, announced on Wednesday, February 8, the spokesperson of the Executive, Dan Cărbunaru.
The Romanian media reports that Dan Cărbunaru stated that the decision was taken to streamline cross-border traffic at the border crossing points with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
“After the beginning of the Russian military aggression in Ukraine, the Government of Romania took continuous steps to support the authorities in Ukraine, but also the Ukrainian citizens. These included also the traffic streamlining at the border crossing points, whether we are referring to the border with Ukraine or the border with the Republic of Moldova, also used for the transit of goods, but also of people from Ukraine. Today, based on the decision taken by the Government, steps will be taken to open the new border crossing point with the Republic of Moldova, Bumbăta – Leova, as well as the establishment of the Bumbăta Border Customs Point, subordinated to the Albița Border Customs Bureau, for international road traffic, in the sector of a floating bridge that will be installed between these two localities Bumbăta, Romania, respectively Leova, Republic of Moldova”, stated Cărbunaru.
Cărbunaru mentioned that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Bode, and his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova will be present in Albiţa today, “to witness the moment when the coordinated controls will begin at the border between Romania and the Republic of Moldova”.
