Anti-corruption officers detained two employees and five representatives of private businesses after conducting over 60 searches related to fraudulent public procurement schemes.
According to the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA), officials from the General Directorate of Urban Mobility within the Chisinau Municipal Council allegedly operated a criminal scheme throughout 2024. These officials, responsible for public procurement, systematically accepted bribes in goods, benefits, or money from individuals and companies in exchange for awarding public contracts.
The contracts cover constructing and repairing sidewalks, public transport roadways, and access roads to residential yards.
The CNA officers uncovered and documented at least 20 instances of public procurement fraud involving public officials.
