Moldovan citizens remain safe in Middle Eastern countries affected by recent military strikes from Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova confirms. Bombardments continue in Israel and Dubai, and residents and tourists are taking shelter. Hundreds of Moldovan citizens remain stranded as regional air traffic faces disruptions, tvrmoldova reports.
Several flights from Chisinau Airport to destinations including Tel Aviv and Dubai have been canceled, at least until Tuesday. Flights to Sharm el Sheikh and Sri Lanka have been postponed by a few hours. While some Moldovans are seeking alternative routes to leave Israel, others are staying in bunkers for safety.
A Moldovan tourist in Dubai described a close encounter with missile debris near a popular beach.
MARILENA CHINTEA, tourist in Dubai: “I was on the beach at noon; everything seemed normal. About 45 minutes after I left the Palm area, missile remnants fell near the Fairmont Hotel. I have a ticket home for March 3, but I likely will not fly, as airspace could remain closed until at least March 7.”
TATIANA BARAC, spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Our Crisis Cell continuously monitors security in Israel, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. Embassies report no casualties among Moldovan citizens. Some countries have airspace closures, and certain flights remain suspended.”
Moldovan citizens in Israel can request emergency consular assistance at +972 52 778 9772. Emergency contacts for other countries are available on the Ministry’s website: mfa.gov.md.
Travelers are advised to follow local safety instructions and monitor flight schedules closely.
