Against the backdrop of the alert of a significant air strike in Kiev, the foreign minister in Chisinau reacts

Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi received a briefing on the status of Moldova’s diplomatic mission and staff in Kyiv amid the security alert following a significant airstrike in Ukraine. On Wednesday, November 20, several embassies, such as those of the USA, Italy, Spain and Greece, suspended their activities.

“Minister Mihai Popsoi personally contacted the Ambassador to ensure the well-being of all mission members and was informed that the mission is operating normally with all necessary precautionary measures in place. Our Embassy is in permanent contact with the Ukrainian authorities and the diplomatic corps in Kyiv,” representatives of the MFA press service assured.

The security alert follows closely after the United States, under Joe Biden’s administration, authorized the use of American-made weapons by Ukraine to target sites in Russia. On Tuesday, Moscow announced that Ukraine has already hit Russia with six US-supplied long-range ATACMS missiles. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he “hopes” that the new nuclear doctrine in which Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has expanded the situations in which he can resort to a nuclear strike “will be read carefully.”
