The former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandr Stoianoglo, has entered the presidential race with the political backing of the Party of Socialists (PSRM). Stoianoglo, a lawyer by profession, was born on June 3, 1967, in Comrat. He is married and has two children. He speaks Romanian, Russian, Gagauz, and Turkish.
He studied law at the State University of Moldova (USM). Throughout his career, the candidate has worked as an assistant prosecutor, sector prosecutor, prosecutor of UTA Gagauzia, deputy prosecutor general, and later as prosecutor general. In 2006, he ran as an independent candidate for governor of UTA Gagauzia but received insufficient votes to advance to the second round. Mr. Stoianoglo also worked as a lawyer and was a member of the Union of Lawyers of Moldova. He was also a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on the list of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM).
Stoianoglo has been the target of several criminal cases. He called it “political.” He has won one case before the ECtEDO and the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). Other cases are pending.
In his 2023 wealth and interests declaration, Alexandr Stoianoglo reported collecting nearly 50,000 lei from the Prosecutor’s Office. Notably, he had been suspended for nearly two years before President Maia Sandu dismissed him from office on September 26, 2023.

The candidate supported by the PSRM indicates that he owns a plot of land obtained in 2015 through an heir’s certificate worth almost 30 thousand lei. He owns 2/5 share of an apartment of 161.3 sq.m., reportedly worth 942,047 lei, and 1/2 share of a 91.5 sq.m. residential house, inherited in 2015. Stoianoglo’s family owns two cars – a Hyundai Tucson, obtained in 2021 for 575,000 lei, and a Mitsubishi Outlander, obtained in 2007 for 80,000 lei. The wealth declaration shows it.
In 2023, Alexandr Stoianoglo took a 200,000 lei loan from Alexandr Sicinski, with repayment due in 2026.
