Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu said that in the event of a possible referendum on unification with Romania, he would vote in favor as a private citizen, but as head of government he would act according to the will of the majority of the population and the official objective of the state, European integration.

He said it is a personal decision and that, as Alexandru Munteanu, he would vote in favor, answering a question from journalists at observatorul.md about his position on a potential unification referendum.

Munteanu stated that, as Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, he must implement the will of the majority of citizens, who have decided that the country objective is European integration, and that he will do everything within his power to achieve this goal.

The prime minister added that, in the current regional context, stability and peace remain the top priorities.

These statements follow remarks by President Maia Sandu, who said in an interview with the British press that she would vote in favor of unification with Romania if a referendum were held, but considers European integration a more realistic objective for the Republic of Moldova, already supported by citizens through a referendum.
