The US authorities temporarily suspended the issuance of immigrant visas for citizens of several countries, including the Republic of Moldova, starting January 21, 2026, Moldova’s Ambassador to the United States, Vladislav Kulminski, said. He emphasized that the measure is strictly administrative and part of a review of the criteria related to the use of public assistance.

The ambassador clarified that tourist, student, work, and business visas continue to be issued and processed normally. He noted that the suspension applies only to immigrant visas and will last until US authorities complete their review.

Kulminski stressed that the impact on Moldova is limited, as the country issued only a few dozen immigrant visas annually. He also confirmed that immigrant visas already issued will not be canceled, and applications under review can still be submitted and processed, but issuance will be temporarily delayed.

He urged citizens to rely on official sources for accurate information, including the US Embassy in Chisinau, travel.state.gov, and the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ambassador added that relations between Moldova and the United States remain strong, highlighting ongoing cooperation projects, high-level visits, and efforts to facilitate Moldovan exports to the US market.
