The Republic of Moldova is not just a country aspiring to join the European Union, but also a test for the EU itself, said Ana Revenco, head of the Center for Strategic Communication and Combating Disinformation. The statement was made during the “Reinvent Moldova 2.0” event, organized by the Realitatea Media Group.

“Republic of Moldova is the litmus test of the European Union’s ability to protect liberal democracies in a state where the tentacles of the Russian Federation are still deeply rooted. That is what is at stake—not just for us,” Revenco said.

According to her, Moldova’s success or failure has implications beyond its borders. “If Moldova succeeds, it proves that the model works—that societies in the grey zone can choose and sustain that choice. If not, Russia gains an even stronger argument, which it will use every day for decades,” she added.

Revenco stressed that responsibility does not lie solely with the authorities, but with society as a whole.

“We do not have the luxury to relax, especially now. We do not have the luxury to pause… because the main actors are not politicians or state institutions. It is you—civil society, entrepreneurs, journalists, everyone who is building something.”

She also noted that efforts to build a better future may not bring immediate recognition. “There will be moments when you do great things and receive no praise. The next day, you start again. Do not expect gratitude—it may come only from future generations.”

In conclusion, the former Interior Minister called for unity and responsibility: “Unity matters. We must be proactive and strategic, and take ownership of the choice we have made… and then we show that I am Moldova and I am the European Union.”

The “Reinvent Moldova 2.0” event brought together experts and opinion leaders in a TED Talk format, serving as a platform for dialogue and civic mobilization in support of the country’s European path.
