Announced persona non grata: an employee of the Russian Embassy in Moldova is obliged to leave our country

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) commented on the expulsion of the Russian diplomat.

“For actions incompatible with diplomatic status, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration declared an employee of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau persona non grata on the territory of our country,” the ministry said.

Now he is obliged to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The name of the employee of the diplomatic mission has not been made public.

“This fact was brought to the attention of the Russian side on the afternoon of April 19 during the visit of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov to the MFAEI headquarters,” the report says.

As a reminder, Russian Ambassador to our country Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned to the MFAEI in connection with the visit of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov to Chisinau.

The official arrived in our country to participate in the International Congress “Friendship of Peoples – 2023”, which is taking place in Gagauzia on April 17. The plane, in the cabin of which the head of the republic was, landed at the Chisinau airport and soon flew back to Russia.

The Border Police stated that supporting a candidate in the regional elections in our country is not a sufficient basis for entering Moldova, and the authorities had previously asked Russian officials to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of the country.
