Over the next four years, universities in the Republic of Moldova will receive approximately €37.8 million in additional funding for development projects. On Wednesday, May 14, the Government approved the Loan Agreement Project for Additional Financing of the Higher Education Project, signed between the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank).
“The decision expands the current project implemented with the World Bank and mobilizes another €38 million for modernizing institutions. We will allocate €15 million to renovate seven student dormitories, creating good living conditions for Moldovan and international students. For the first time, we will direct resources toward equipping research institutions,” said Minister Dan Perciun.
According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the agreement includes a €30 million loan and a €7.8 million grant to continue modernizing higher education by strengthening research capacities and ensuring quality in professional training.

The investments will promote the internationalization of higher education, upgrade university infrastructure, especially student dormitories, and align education institutions with labor market demands while responding to refugee needs.
Authorities plan to renovate seven student dormitories, modernize research centers, and create student-friendly learning environments. Additionally, they will equip ten research and innovation organizations within higher education institutions. They will offer young researchers grants to disseminate their findings, and the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) will establish the Innovation Center in Agriculture.
