The Socialists are preparing for the elections expected to take place in Gagauzia. The PSRM leader Igor Dodon visited the region and met with several party members from the autonomous area.
Dodon said he met with the head of the party’s territorial organization, as well as with several Socialist deputies from the People’s Assembly. He also held a meeting with the heads of the PSRM primary organizations in Gagauzia.
“We discussed the political situation in the country and in the region and analyzed preparations for the elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, scheduled for March 22. The Party of Socialists is approaching these elections with maximum seriousness: we are finalizing the team of candidates in all 35 constituencies of the autonomy. The region deserves strong leadership and professional staff ready to work effectively for the benefit of Gagauzia,” Dodon said.
The date of the elections for the People’s Assembly was set in November 2025, when Dmitri Constantinov also announced his resignation. He was later sentenced to 12 years in prison for embezzlement.
For now, the situation regarding the bashkan elections remains uncertain, after Evghenia Gutul was found guilty in a case concerning the illegal financing of parties associated with Ilan Shor.
