The Cuciurgan power plant will switch to coal, and Krasnoselski has prohibited the removal of solid fuel from the region. Additionally, the separatist authorities have launched a hotline for the population in the context of a potential energy crisis.
According to the press from Tiraspol, the self-proclaimed region will not be able to export firewood and coal either. Transnistrian officials state that if they halt the gas supply on January 1, 2024, switching to coal at the Cuciurgan plant will not cause power outages.
It is important to note that the agreement regarding the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will expire on January 1, 2025. As a result, Transnistria risks to be without blue fuel, and the Cuciurgan power plant will no longer be able to generate electricity to deliver to the right bank.

Authorities declared a state of emergency in Transnistria’s economic sector. This measure stipulates that the Cuciurgan power plant will not supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester if the separatist region runs out of gas.
Government spokesperson Daniel Voda clarified on December 23, 2024, that the constitutional authorities are not currently purchasing electricity from Cuciurgan, as only two turbines at the plant are operational. The others were shut down as a result of Russian bombings on the Ukrainian city of Podolsk, according to the official.
