The Author Wine Festival will return in early autumn, with its fourth edition scheduled for September 4-6, 2026, in the courtyard of the National Museum of History of Moldova. For the first time, the event will run for three days, bringing together 40 small wine producers from different regions of the country.
The winemakers will present their wines and share the stories behind their creations.
The Author Wine Festival is the only event in Moldova dedicated exclusively to small wine producers. It has become a platform for direct communication and interaction between winemakers and consumers, giving visitors the opportunity not only to taste author wines but also to meet the people who create them.
The festival has grown alongside the number of participating wineries, which are members of the Association of Small Wine Producers of Moldova, as well as growing public interest in author wines. This year’s edition will therefore expand to three days and feature wine presentations, tasting masterclasses led by sommeliers, interactive experiences with winemakers and live music.
“The Author Wine Festival is the only event on the local market dedicated exclusively to small wine producers in the country,” said Elena Tomescu, administrator of the Association of Small Wine Producers of Moldova. “First and foremost, the festival is a platform for communication and direct interaction between producers and consumers, as well as an opportunity to meet the winemakers and their families, the people who make us proud and who put not only wine but also a story into every bottle.”
According to Tomescu, the decision to extend the festival to three days follows the growing interest shown by the community and visitors in recent years.
What Is Author Wine?
Small wine producers are independent wineries that own up to 20 hectares of vineyards and produce no more than 100,000 liters of wine annually. In most cases, they are family businesses in which the winemaker is directly involved in every stage of production, from vineyard management and grape harvesting to winemaking, bottling and presenting the wine.
This direct involvement is one of the defining characteristics of author wine. The product reflects the person who created it, the place and region where it comes from, and the winemaker’s individual style.
At the same time, small-batch production allows winemakers to closely monitor every stage of the process and devote greater attention to each wine.
During the three-day festival, visitors will be able to interact directly with producers and learn more about local grape varieties and the characteristics of Moldova’s different wine regions.
About the Association of Small Wine Producers of Moldova
The Author Wine Festival is organized by the Association of Small Wine Producers of Moldova, founded in 2010 to represent and support small and independent wineries and increase their visibility both in Moldova and abroad.
The association currently has 65 members, including winemakers, family businesses and independent wineries from different regions of the country. Together, they own more than 500 hectares of vineyards and produce more than one million bottles of wine annually, which are exported to 25 countries.
In 2025, the value of their wine exports exceeded $1.17 million, nearly double the approximately $606,000 recorded in 2020.
The association’s members have also received numerous awards at specialized competitions in Moldova and abroad. Between 2020 and 2025, member wineries won a total of 649 medals, including 110 awards in 2025 alone.
