The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) confirmed that Moldova faces no risks of radioactive contamination following reported problems at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, currently under Russian occupation.

The IGSU stated that radiation levels in Moldova remain normal, are constantly monitored, and have not exceeded legal limits. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not issued any notifications about radiological threats to the country.

“The reactors remain shut down, radiation levels are normal, and the emergency generators have fuel reserves for about 20 days. Satellite images show that Russia has built a new power line and a dam for an alternative cooling source,” the IGSU reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that the Zaporizhia plant has been disconnected from the electrical grid for seven days, the longest period since the war began. The IAEA continues to work with the parties involved to restore the power supply, but warns that the overall nuclear safety situation remains fragile.
