Balkan Pharmaceuticals presents the Balkan Pharmaceutical and MedTech Park project at the EU–Moldova Investment Conference held in Chisinau. The company launches the initiative as a strategic investment in the region and positions it as one of the largest fully Romanian-capital investments in the Republic of Moldova.
The event brings together more than 500 investors, business leaders, representatives of international financial institutions, and development partners. Maia Sandu, Marta Kos, and Alexandru Munteanu open the conference.
During the event, Balkan Pharmaceuticals presents an investment project worth over €20 million aimed at developing pharmaceutical infrastructure, applied research, and technological innovation in Moldova.
The project includes the construction of a new production facility, the development of a biomedical innovation cluster, and the creation of modern research and development infrastructure, including shared laboratories built in cooperation with local universities and international partners. It also integrates renewable energy solutions and storage systems to support a sustainable industrial platform.
Marta Kos addresses the company and states, “Balkan Pharmaceuticals — you already employ over 400 people in Moldova, and you now expand your activity. This represents a strong vote of confidence in the country’s potential.”
The project also develops training and education programs tailored to pharmaceutical and biomedical sectors, based on cooperation with national and international educational institutions.
The initiative emerges from technical dialogue with the European Commission through the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST). Between February and June 2026, experts hold several technical meetings, analyze the investment concept, and conduct a study visit to the company’s factory.
The process culminates at the conference with the signing of a Letter of Intent between the European Commission, through DG ENEST, and Balkan Pharmaceuticals on cooperation for the development of the bio-pharmaceutical sector in Moldova.
European representatives state that the project aligns with the EU Growth Plan for Moldova and supports economic competitiveness, research, innovation, and human capital development.
The presentation highlights the growing role of the pharmaceutical sector in Moldova’s economic transformation and shows how private investment, combined with EU partnership and European integration, contributes to a more competitive and innovation-driven economy.
