Alexandru Munteanu says the Republic of Moldova strengthens its ambition to become an important regional player in digital technologies and innovation. He makes the statement at the opening of the Moldova Digital Summit 2026, one of the largest regional events dedicated to the digital economy.
During his speech, the head of government emphasizes that digitalization represents not only a technological option but also a strategic choice for Moldova’s development.
“Digital transformation is not about computers. It is about the power of citizens to access services faster, the power of businesses to grow faster, and the power of a country to compete in a rapidly changing world,” the prime minister says.
He highlights progress in digitalization and notes that 78% of services for the business environment already operate online. He also states that the IT sector generates more than one billion euros in exports through the Moldova Innovation Technology Park. The country also ranks among the fastest-growing startup ecosystems in the region.
The authorities point to Moldova’s accession to the “Roam Like at Home” area, which increases mobile data consumption while roaming.
From the government’s perspective, the next step involves developing Moldova into a regional GovTech hub where technology simplifies public services and reduces bureaucracy.
“Our ambition is not only to join the European Union, but to contribute to building Europe’s digital future,” the prime minister adds.
Marta Kos praises Moldova’s progress at the event, stating that the digital sector reflects the country’s modernization potential and can serve as a model for other areas.
The Moldova Digital Summit 2026 takes place in Chisinau on June 5–6 and brings together around 2,000 participants, including officials, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, and technology industry leaders. The event features 40 thematic sessions, workshops, B2B meetings, and an exhibition area dedicated to innovation, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
